Shoal Creek Conservancy, in partnership with Pease Park Conservancy, manage a 47,500 square-foot demonstration native habitat restoration site along the Shoal Creek Trail north of Gaston Avenue. The goal is to transform a former bamboo forest into diverse native habitat site that can serve as a model for other projects along Austin creeks. The first phase of the project involved removal of invasive Golden Bamboo and installation of a root barrier along the public-private property line. Volunteers, led by the Junior League of Austin, assisted with the restoration phase, which included a major native tree, grass and wildflower seed plantings. Restoration and monitoring activities continue.
