What:
Join Shoal Creek Conservancy and Travis Audubon Society as we enjoy a spring birding walk at Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park. We will surely enjoy our year-round residents such as Red-Shouldered and Cooper’s Hawks, Red-bellied and Downy Woodpeckers, and the usual Central Texas songbirds such as Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, Northern Cardinals, Carolina Wrens, and Lesser Goldfinches. Additionally, we will look for persisting winter residents such as Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets, American Robins and Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-rumped Warblers, American Goldfinches, and a variety of sparrows. And if we are lucky, we might see some early-arriving warm-season birds, such as White-eyed Vireo, various swallows, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and Nashville Warblers.
Beginners, as well as experienced birders, are welcome. Not all portions of the planned route are easily accessible to those with mobility challenges, but the main portion of the park and playground area are. We can make adjustments in our route if necessary. Restrooms are available at the playground. Bring water or snacks, if you desire, and wear appropriate footwear (closed toes are recommended). Wear layers appropriate for the weather.
Please refrain from sharing equipment with people outside their household. We will have a small supply of loaner binoculars if you do not have your own. Please do not attend if you have a fever, cough, any other symptoms of illness, or if you have had a known exposure to Covid-19 within the preceding two weeks.
*If we are still at Covid stage 4, masks are required for participation.* At Stage 3, masks are optional. Registration is required and is limited to 10.
We will meet in the parking area closest to the pond at 7:30 am and will aim to end by 10am.
Interested? Register below after January 1st.
