What:
Join Shoal Creek Conservancy, Austin Resource Recovery, and Austin Watershed Protection on August 29th from 8-10 am for the 4th Annual Shoal Creek Shopping Cart Corral presented by H-E-B!
This event is inspired by the Austin Watershed Protection Department’s Trash in Creeks field study that found over 500 shopping carts throughout Austin’s creeks in early 2022. If you have participated in SCC’s volunteer cleanups, you have likely spotted hard-to-reach shopping carts or have pulled one or two out of Shoal Creek. The corral is our chance to round up the rest. During the 2025’s Shopping Cart Corral, over 80 volunteers, WPD staff, and ARR staff at 6 locations along Shoal Creek, and in just 2 hours, collectively removed 9 shopping carts, 170 bags of litter, and lots of large bulky items like 5 mattresses, 7 wooden pallets, rugs, tarps, a stroller, a full-size basketball goal, and so much more! These efforts removed a staggering 5,000 pounds of litter from Shoal Creek!
2026 Corral cleanup locations are yet to be finalized. Check back for more details!
