Trails become more complete and comfortable destinations when wayfinding (directional) signage is added. That’s why wayfinding signage is a big priority of both the Shoal Creek Trail Plan and the Urban Trails Program.

Shoal Creek Conservancy partnered with the Urban Trails Program to identify locations for the 125 new signs along 9.5 miles of Shoal Creek!

The signs are located between Lady Bird Lake and the Northern Trailhead at Neils Thompson Drive.

Shoal Creek Trail signage was funded through the 2016 Mobility Bond, installed by the Urban Trails Program of the Public Works Department and coordinated closely with Shoal Creek Conservancy, Pease Park Conservancy, and Austin Parks and Recreation. Project staff include Matt Harold (Project Management Division) and Dylan Johnstone (Community Services Division).

To date, the Urban Trails Program has installed wayfinding signs on over 25 miles of urban trails citywide. Another 9 miles are planned in the next 1-3 years with the construction of Mobility Bond-funded projects for the Austin to Manor Trail and Country Club Creek Trail.
