Shoal Creek Wildlife Spotting Guide

May 15, 2025  | By Shoal Creek Conservancy

There’s a wonderful new resource to accompany you during your walks along Shoal Creek! SCC’s Spring 2025 Sustainability Intern, Mallory Fogt, created a Wildlife Spotting Guide to help you and your family discover the incredible species that call Shoal Creek home! From red-tailed hawks to raccoons, this guide highlights how much wildlife can be found in Austin’s green spaces, if you know where to look. Each page features species info, fun facts, and tips to help you spot and appreciate each animal.

This wildlife guide is a fantastic educational resource that highlights the biodiversity of wildlife in the Shoal Creek Watershed, which is yet another reason to make sustainable and water-wise choices on our own properties. You can help protect the vital ecosystems that allow Austin’s greenspaces to thrive by planting a diverse range of native plants, decreasing fertilizer use, collecting rainwater, and more. You can even help provide food, shelter, and water for critter friends in your own backyard!

Be sure to grab a hard copy at our upcoming Healthy Habitats along Shoal Creek Tour on June 7th and start spotting!
