Conservancy Creates Bob Armstrong Award
April 18, 2015 | By Shoal Creek Conservancy
We are very pleased to announce our final award for next Tuesday’s #ShoalCreekAwards. The Bob Armstrong Award for Lifetime Achievement in Conservation was created to extend beyond the borders of the Shoal Creek watershed to honor the powerful environmental legacy of Texas’ 24th land commissioner.
One of Armstrong’s most well-known achievements was 17 years in the making. In 1988, he championed the purchase of 212,000 acres of land adjacent to Big Bend National Park and created Big Bend Ranch State Park in the process, doubling the state’s park acreage.
Bob Armstrong passed away in March but we hope the creation of this award and his legacy will inspire a new generation of Texas conservationists. This year’s inaugural award will be presented to his widow, Linda Aaker.
