Celebrate National Trails Day 2014 on Shoal Creek

Join us this Saturday, June 7th, as volunteers will participate in six improvement projects along Shoal Creek as part of the annual National Trails Day celebration. Shoal Creek Conservancy is partnering with community leaders to host six volunteer projects ranging from improving access to the trail at the 6th Street Bridge to mulching at Duncan Park.
National Trails Day is a citywide event hosted by the Austin Parks Foundation with REI, Hill Country Conservancy and the Texas Conservation Corps. National Trails Day is a day to celebrate and improve our great trails system. All ages are welcome, and volunteers even receive a Chipotle gift card and KIND bar for their hard work. Project times vary throughout the day, ranging from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Volunteers can choose from six trail and creek improvement projects along Shoal Creek:
- Allandale Shoal Creek Greenbelt: Restoring Habitat
5600 Block of Shoal Creek Boulevard
9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Work to remove invasive plant species and improve the trail. Signup here. - Duncan Park Tree Mulching
Duncan Park, 900 W. 9th Street
8:00 am – 10:00 am
Boost drought protection for the trees by spreading mulch. Signup here. - Tre Arenz Memorial Wall Cleaning
Shoal Creek Footbridge at Lady Bird Lake, 600 W. Cesar Chavez
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Clean the mosaic tile on the memorial wall, sweep & clean the area around the water fountain, and weed & rake the areas in front of the wall. Signup here. - Sprucing Up the 6th Street Bridge
West 6th Street Bridge over Shoal Creek
8:30 am – 11:30 am
Take part in weeding, cleaning up brush, and picking up trash. Signup here. - Trail Work at 5th Street
300 West Avenue

Improve the Shoal Creek trail at the “gap” in the trail just south of the 5th Street Bridge. Signup here. - Trail Improvements to West 6th Shoal Creek Access

8:30 am – 11:30 am
Improve the informal access to the Shoal Creek trail at the northwest corner of the West 6th Street Bridge by picking up trash and spreading granite. Signup here.

Volunteers will receive an invitation to attend a National Trails Day After Party at Zilker Park with food, drinks and music as well as free parking and a free swim at Barton Spring Pool afterwards.
