NATIVE TREE PLANTING ON SHOAL CREEK AT HABITAT RESTORATION SITE

Calling all volunteers! Join the Shoal Creek Conservancy, Pease Park Conservancy and the City of Austin on Saturday, January 17, 2015 to plant 1,000 tree seedlings at the bamboo removal and habitat restoration project site along the Shoal Creek trail near Gaston Avenue. We need 100 volunteers to plant and water trees. Please RSVP. Please register so that we can make sure we have plenty of tools, tacos and shirts for everyone, and contact us directly if you have a large group that would like to get involved.

DETAILS

What: Native Tree Planting at Habitat Restoration Site

When: Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Where: We will meet along the Shoal Creek trail just north of the intersection of Shoal Creek Boulevard and Gaston Avenue (north of roughly 2700 Shoal Creek Blvd. on Google Maps).

What to Expect: We will plant 1,000 native tree seedlings along the Shoal Creek trail. This volunteer workday is part of a larger project to remove invasive bamboo and restore native habitat at the site.

What to Bring: Please bring a FILLED bottle of water. We also recommend wearing sturdy closed-toed shoes and older clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Parking: Parking is available just south of the project site at the Shoal Creek trail dog park parking lot, located south of the intersection of Gaston Avenue and Shoal Creek Boulevard (roughly 2700 Shoal Creek Blvd on Google Maps). After parking, walk north on the trail to the tree planting site. You’ll see a large group right on the left side of the trail.

Perks: Cirrus Logic is graciously providing breakfast tacos for all volunteers. Shoal Creek Conservancy is providing coffee and t-shirts as well and Pease Park Conservancy will provide snack bars, fruit and water.

Rain Plan: This event will take place in light rain and cold weather as we don’t want to miss the perfect time to plant seedlings (winter months). If there is a driving rain, please check this website, your email and Facebook to see if the event will be rescheduled.
