SCC Fall 2019 Events: We can’t wait to see you on the trail!

September 10, 2019  | By Shoal Creek Conservancy

This fall you can expect to see Shoal Creek Conservancy on the trail each month hosting volunteer workdays and educational tours that cover topics like birding, human impact on the creek, and tree identification.

As a SCC volunteer this fall, you will increase trail safety and accessibility by removing litter, sediment and overgrowth along the trail on monthly workdays, including annual volunteer days like National Public Lands Day (9/28) or It’s My Park Day with Austin Parks Foundation (11/2). Join us for one workday or all of them! We need your help to maintain a healthy habitat, where humans, native plants and animals can flourish.

Our fall Trail Tours kick off with Travis Audubon Society on September 14th as we look for birds from Kingsbury Commons to Custer’s Meadow in Pease Park. With woodland, riparian, and open meadow habitats represented, we expect to see a diversity of birds from woodpeckers to herons.

Join us on October 19th, as Dr. Kevin Anderson, from Austin Water Center for Environmental Research, speaks about the history of human and natural impacts on Shoal Creek.

Or enjoy a shaded hike as TreeFolks provides a Tree ID tour along a wooded section of Shoal Creek trail near the Shoal Creek Dog Park on November 9th.

If trivia is more your thing, on October 15th SCC is partnering with Geeks Who Drink for their Quiz for a Cause trivia night at Celis Brewery. This will be a great opportunity to hangout with all the friends you’ll make while volunteering and hiking with us this fall. We’d love to have you on Team Shoal Creek Conservancy!

If there is a tour or event you’d love to attend but don’t see the topic listed here, let us know! Send programming suggestions to [email protected].
