More about Duncan Neighborhood Park

Duncan Neighborhood Park is located along the Shoal Creek Greenbelt just northwest of downtown Austin. Surrounded by both residential and commercial spaces, Duncan Park has dynamically served the community for over 75 years.  By offering a beautiful open lawn, access to the Shoal Creek Trail, picnic areas and more, Duncan Park is a valuable space and an asset to the area.

Expanding in the 1980s, the park grew to include its most distinguishing feature – the BMX trail course. Constructed by the BMX group, “the 9th Street Locals”, the course continually draws attention and visitors to the park. Although the course is a point of interest, recent studies have shown the course, in conjunction with the current drought, may be affecting the trees in the area. In light of this, the Department is in the process of responding with plans to implement mitigation plans in order to improve the trees and water quality at the site.

Along with the BMX course, the City recognizes there are many areas where Duncan Park can be improved. We are excited to join forces with the Parks and Recreation Department, Austin Parks Foundation, and various community and stakeholders groups to aid in the improvement of this incredible landmark. Aiming to create a functional urban space and promote enjoyment for years to come, the project will focus on both environmental and infrastructural improvements.
