As one of the four focus areas within the Shoal Creek Trail Plan, Duncan Neighborhood Park has reopened – celebrated with a ribbon cutting on April 13, 2024 – after major improvements were made by the City of Austin over the last year. Changes include improved grading and ADA accessibility, enhanced connection to the Shoal Creek Trail, native wildflower meadows (to increase biodiversity and habitat and assist with improving water quality, much like a rain garden), a restored wetland area, a walking path, and other amenities like seating, picnic tables, a drinking fountain, additional shade trees and trash receptacles. The Duncan Park improvement plan was initiated in 2016 and was constructed with funds from the 2012 Prop 14 Park Bond and the 2018 Proc C Park Bond.

Shoal Creek Conservancy has been proud to partner with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department in developing the park’s vision from the beginning, and will continue to stay involved to ensure that the park reflects the desires of the community.

Duncan Park has served the community for over 75 years and is an important asset directly on Shoal Creek for nearby residents and all Shoal Creek Trail users who wish to stop, recreate, explore and take in great views of the downtown skyline.
